Mistake detectives
Every Monday our teacher gives us a ‘mistake detective’ game. Today we’re looking at Bobur’s email to his English friend.
His first sentence is: “I have twelve years old.” We know the answer: in English we say I’m twelve — with be, not have!
The next one is: “My mum go to work by car.” Malika finds the mistake, and we all agree: she goes to work — he, she, it + -s.
Then: “I am liking football very much.” That’s easy — like is a stative verb: I like football very much.
The last mistake is: “I’m very tired to play the drums today.” Everybody shouts: “You’re too tired to play!” Bobur laughs: “OK, OK — everybody can make a mistake! You’re very good detectives!”
Savollar: 1. What game does the class play every Monday? · 2. What is wrong in ‘I have twelve years old’? · 3. Why is ‘My mum go’ wrong? · 4. Why can’t we say ‘I am liking’? · 5. Correct the last sentence.
